New Ad Simultaneously Targets Adults and Abused Children: Pros & Cons

Life is not without contradictions: in order to live well, individuals have to learn to balance their impulses, be aware of both the Jekyll & Hyde sides of their personalities, and then side with Jekyll whenever humanly possible, especially when it comes to dealing with children. Unfortunately, some people can’t be trusted to do so.Around 3.3 million reports of child abuse are annually filed in the United States wich is the worst record of any industrialized nation. A Spanish organization called ANAR, Aid to Children and Adolescents at Risk Foundation, is the creative force behind a revolutionary type of advertising technology that is aimed at fighting child-abuse. Displaying two different kinds of messages simultaneously, one is intended for adults, while the other is aimed at the victims.http://youtu.be/6zoCDyQSH0oThe technology behind the ad is rather advanced;  two separate images are displayed at the same time but can only be viewed at different angles. Think of the ad as a rather sophisticated hologram, children will see messaging their abusers won’t, even if they’ll be standing right next to them, hopefully increasing their chances of getting help. The messages are clear, but are they going to be effective?Kids have to be four-and-a-half feet or shorter to see the ad, yet adolescents often grow over five feet tall. Alternatively, any adult who gets close enough to the floor might be able to see the ads. Yet another concern is, how long until advertisers start targeting children with products or messaging that's less than appropriate for their age? If the parents won’t see them, how would they know?kidThere are pros and cons to each technological leap forward, while the ad is intended to help those how need it, future advertisers many use the same technology to coerce kids, or others, into messaging that’s bad or deceitful. The point here remains the same, while people have to balance their Jekyll & Hyde’s, let’s lean towards the Jekyll side whenever possible.Image Source: Wiki CommonsVideo Source: YouTubeBased on: Gizmodo.com
