Con Artist Collective Expands Into Lower East Side Space On Ludlow
Always searching for more room to create, New York City's Con Artist Collective moved their Suffolk Street studio to a sprawling two-floor workshop/gallery space located on the Lower East Side's buzzing Ludlow Street.Designed and constructed by Con Artist members, the 3,000 square feet property provides space for printmaking, painting, photography, fashion and artistic projects.Equipped with four color silk screen presses, light table, photo studio, professional lighting, power washer, drop sink, multiple sewing machines, tools and hardware, computers and software, myriads of space and a solid community – Con Artist Collective has created a fully-stocked space for artists to work on their modern masterpieces with everything they could possibly need. The larger location - predominantly constructed out of wood - will provide a much grander playground for the artistic community with a storefront that doubles as event space, a gallery, outdoor space, and two floors of shared artist workspace. All items available for public purchase are made and curated by the members of the collective, with 75% of the sale price going directly to the artist. The concept actually took flight in early 2010, and has since then grown.“We wanted to offer members a larger, cleaner work environment with more modern amenities,” said Brian Shevlin, founder of Con Artist Collective. “The best part is we didn’t have to look far to get the project underway, 90 percent of our members contributed to the renovation in some capacity.”Featuring exposed brick walls and three large sliding wooden work surfaces that fold against the wall, it provides an option for larger work areas. The space also features four individual one and two-person private work stations and a bright red loft with eight computer desks, as well as a rolling soundproof meeting room decorated with collective members’ artwork, a painting room on the lower-level .
Con Artist Collective is located at 119 Ludlow Street in NYC's Lower East Side.
