The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival commonly known as "Coachella" or "Coachellafest" is a two-weekend celebration and is nothing if not a celebration of bounty. Bountiful land, eateries, spirit, and creativity are all amongst the six-day, two-weekend gathering. With your bottle of 55 SPF as your chief necessity, temperatures on both weekends hovered in the 100-degree ranges without a cloud in the sky. Air conditioning was a foreign concept and flesh was the accepted attire. The come-all hippie chic with booty shorts, crop tops, and heart rimmed glasses were allowed with supreme reign.

Despite the raging Indio heat, fresh-faced, lithe-bodied kids were frolicking with their compatriots from dusk till dawn. Notable appearances include Bjork, The Strokes, Swedish House Mafia, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Major Lazer, and Beastie Boys. This year unless you were present, Fall Out Boy backed 2Chainz in a song, Purity Ring collaborated with rapper Danny Brown, and Wu Tang’s RZA rapped to a lucky lady in the crowd while crooner James Blake laid down the track with his band.

Although, Coachella is known for its reputation of surprise mash-ups to keep their fan base delightfully on edge. With the right swag or connections you could get the ins at the more private events and poolside parties. These exclusive affairs sponsor the industry’s young commercially elite individuals and if you can attain a hall pass, you’re most definitely in for a treat. After catching some of the headliner highlights of the festival, you can indulge yourself in light served brunch, hear a couple of great DJs, catch up with some indie bands and meet some of the most beautiful people after taking a dip in the pool. Besides after 72 hours of blaring music and all the “beam-me-up-Scotty” expenses, the need for occasional respites from the crowd will be ever more essential.

It was six years ago on October 9th, 1999 three months after the Woodstock 99 festival where the first Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was bred. Regardless of the hefty price you pay for the boiling heat among the fierce masses – Coachella is well worth the experience at least once in your life.
