Wooden Boat Festival

Don’t miss this historic event!Port Townsend, Washington’s Wooden Boat Festival is one of the most education-dense and inspiring wooden boat events in the world. Anything and everything about boats and how they’re made from wood can be answered in this three-day event. It features more than 300 wooden vessels, hundreds of indoor and outdoor presentations and demonstrations, a “who’s who” of wooden boat experts and thousands of wooden boat enthusiasts. There’s something to do, people to meet, and boats to see wherever you look. The festival is an age-old tradition that honors the boat makers and vessels before it while providing energy and excitement about this century old trade. This festival is packed full of activities with an atmosphere perfect for mingling and meeting new people. You can enjoy boat races, failing, rowing, music, entertainment, and there’s even a spot for young kids to enjoy themselves while the parents do their own thing. The Wooden Boat Foundation and Festival was founded in 1978, and after the first highly successful festival, it has grown to serve nearly 150,000 people annually. This idea started out as a wild and random one, and more than 2,000 people from the US and even some Canadian provinces traveled to the first recognized Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend. Its success has taken off from there, and as the old saying goes, “the rest is history.”
