W GANGS OF NY - Launch Edition

Upon entrance into Union Square’s Park Ave W Hotel, an anticipation of picturesque performances from a series of artists was merited. Before we indulge you on the summer music series hosted by none other than New York’s finest chain of W Hotels; “The W Gangs of NY” collaboration is cosigned with weekly live performances from a superb range of artists every Sunday till the beginning of September. Now who wouldn't want to bask in a loose-fitting setting with chilled air in our conflagrant cit? A succession of music supremacy will embark for the next couple months – breaking the ice on July 10th with a live performance from The Virgins followed by one of the core members of Yeasayer, Chris Keating. Hailing from the genre-defying Brooklyn scene, Keating dappled between psychedelic pop to worldbeat on his set. During Raine's speedy meet-and-greet with Keating and asked of how he came about his association with W Hotel's launch edition, he charmingly responded with "They asked me to open before Grandmaster Flash.. like um, that's pretty intimidating but damn epic". After setting a vibe of undeniable junkyard percussion and melodic sound craft, tables shifted onto Grandmaster Flash who tore up the crowd. Flash is known as one of the pioneers of American hip-hop for cutting and mixing his tracks. Not to mention, he's also deemed as the inventor of the first crossfader.photoChris Keating of Yeasayer. After being briefed about the record labels involved from Simon Warrington, the marketing director for W Hotels – Raine graciously thanked them for the invite. Such labels: We Are Free, Cult Records, Neon Gold,Future Classic & Strictly Music are all affiliated with the summer series. W Gangs of NY shines light on the city’s finest and most credible record labels, all the while allowing their attendees to take pleasure in customized cocktails (sponsored by Absolute Vodka).img-w-gangs-of-ny_153249701892.jpg_pyramid1Grandmaster Flash backstage before his sick set. “Commenting on the collaboration, W Hotels’ Global Music Director Michaelangelo D’Laqua states, “New Yorkers are no longer defined by geographical boundaries; music style, fashion, and attitudes unite people and challenge the old idea of neighbourhood gangs. We wanted to explore this via music using the W Hotels of New York as the backdrop. W Gangs of NY will create a new cultural turf to protect; grouping by musical style, rather than zip code, using music as the communicator to protect reputation. I’m looking forward to opening up the series.”Just to round up the details of this exclusive music series, patrons are able to RSVP and receive an invitation, limited spots only.
