Big Ben sounds like a cool nickname given to a man by one of his best mates. Big Ben is actually the nickname of Great Britain's fan favorite clock tower, and it demands respect!Big Ben can be seen from a far with a clock facing a northern, southern, eastern, and western hemisphere. It stands perfectly tall amongst other historical architecture in London, England such as the London Bridge, Tower Bridge and Westminster Abbey. Big Ben stands guard for Great Britain although it is a clock tower. The nickname derives from the person who actually rang the bell in the tower. It would be fair to assume that Ben was strong or heavy set, either way, he should be proud of having this monument nicknamed after him. Its strength and beauty come from its structural design similar to buildings around it except it continues to rise high above the rest. Buildings of the clock tower's size are mostly modern and their outside is usually covered in glass, like the empire state building in New York City. The giant clocks near the very top of the tower are also interesting. Most clocks in this century are digital. The clocks on Big Ben look as if they may belong on a Rolex wrist watch. The gold trimming around each clock, the bars that surround the bell and the crosses on the top of the tower make it exquisite.
