SOUNDCLASH
If you haven’t swung by W Hotel’s summer music series: The W Gangs of New York weekly Sunday gigs, you still have about four weeks to correct your error. Last Sunday, July 21th – a live DJ set from Dirty Projectors was the first to kick it off. An American rock band who have been compared to the likes of David Byrne, Beyonce, and even Frank Zappa. Their DJ set displayed their distinctive use of lo-fi/hi-fi arrangements along with their wide spread association of implementing many genres altogether. Following promptly right behind was none other than The Drums; an American indie band from Brooklyn holding strong under UK and AU labels. The crowd swayed to new wave, surf rock beats while sipping away on Absolut Vodka cocktails. This week’s music series was inspired by the cult classic New York film, The Warriors ergo naming this Sunday’s series: SoundClash. Once again, this summer music series contrives of the city’s top-notch record labels to collide against each other through a fusion of live music and DJ sets to determine who the ultimate musical Gang of New York is.The event is available to the public and will take place each Sunday up until August 25th, at a different W Hotel property in New York City each week.
