Pay It Forward

This new restaurant philosophy is catchy and leaves patrons feeling good. Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen’s slogan is “Hope is Delicious.” That sounds nice and everything, but a closer look reveals something much more. Their vision at Soul Kitchen is to serve healthy, scrumptious, and at times organic meals that are satisfying and provide unity and good company to customers. Sounds like every other restaurant right? However, customers will be quick to notice on the menu that there are no prices of anything, and just like a typical Hibachi restaurant, you may be seated next to a total stranger. Customers only have to pay the minimum donation of ten dollars (or more, if you’re feeling generous, which could defray the cost of someone else’s meal) or they have the option of volunteering for an hour in order to earn a meal. Volunteering includes preparing food, set up tables with dishes, serve others, bus tables, clean, and the old school favorite of washing and drying dishes.

The JBJ Soul Kitchen is a non-profit community program run and made possible by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. Just because there aren’t any prices, doesn’t mean you’re only getting a bowl full of watered down soup or days-old meat. Soul Kitchen serves a 3-course meal based on American Regional cuisine, starting with a soup or salad, followed by a choice of fish, meat, or vegetarian selection. A fresh baked dessert comes after, and all of the ingredients are made with fresh, local ingredients.
