John Lynch IV is using his talents as a filmmaker to make powerful movies and inspire the world.Surf cinematographer John Lynch IV does more than just film himself surfing in gorgeous locations around the globe. He picked up a camera when he was ten years old and hasn’t stopped since. For over twenty years he has been pursuing stories through his talents as a surfer that will impact others. He has produced several film projects because he finds inspiration in the cultures and music he finds around the globe that he shares with others. His love for the ocean began as a boy on a small barrier island on the Atlantic coast of Florida, where he was born and raised.Lynch’s latest released project, “Abroad,” was filmed during his time in Indonesia in parts that had been ravaged by tsunamis. It digs deep to explore how being a tourist can transcend into being someone who makes a difference in peoples lives. Lynch landed in a remote village in Sumatra, which was mostly destroyed by a 2010 tsunami. He met a couple of travelers who helped him find what he had been looking for in his journey. The trip transformed into a quest to bring the students of that village school supplies, like backpacks, pencils and paper. He states, “It’s about how meeting fellow travelers can open up your world. I hope this movie encourages others to get off the tourist trals, throw away their itineraties, and get involved with something out of their comfort zone; stepping in to make a difference is much more rewarding than just being an observant tourist.” A unique aspect of the film was that it was shot with no crew, just Lynch. This was made possibly by a PENTAX wide-angle camera lens and calculated positioning that made it seem like Lynch was being followed.Info source:lynchfilm.comsurfline.comPhoto source:lynchfilm.com
