Movie Franchises: Star Wars, Resident Evil, Avatar and more.
There are many filmmakers out in the world, but most of them never make it to the top because, let’s face it, not everyone survives the entertainment machine. Then what does it take to make it all the way, to that coveted spot in the limelight? Well, it either takes an ingenious idea, an uncanny amount of persistence, or both. Let’s take a look at a few recent examples. George Lucas has had two majorly successful movie franchises that have earned him a reputation as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. With the Indiana Jones and Star Wars films, he has been on both sides of the spectrum, the ingenious idea side and the side of uncanny persistence, which have allowed him to continue making films way past the point of when he should have stopped - we’re referring to the last Indiana movie here, hint-hint.Similarly, Paul W.S. Anderson is on the same path. Most of us would agree that the Resident Evil franchise is awesomely bad; the films are a guilty pleasure, and while an Oscar nomination will never sound for them, we keep on watching despite the fact that the last two films were probably the worse installments in the entire franchise. But persistence is a trait that’s hard to fight, especially if your bad movies are still being watched, shared and written about (yes, we realize the irony here). To our horror and amazement, we just found out that Alice is coming back for yet another installment for zombie-killing, weapon thrusting and running in slow motion, of course. Played by iconic action-star Milla Jovovich, Alice will be appearing onscreen again in September 2014.Film franchises like The Fast and the Furious and Scary Movie, both have different directors, writers and producers, making them none-linear films, but don’t you worry, chances are James Cameron will give us another cult favorite franchise with the Avatar films, he knows about persistence, take that Terminator 3.Image Source: Wiki CommonsWriter: Staff Writer, Liz Belilovskaya
