From the bustling street corners of New York City emerges a strand of independent designer's unheard of. They are breaking barriers in the apparel category by designing and creating with sustainable and ethically sourced materials all within reach of the modern Satarolist. Contemporary is the new modern luxury. Gone are the days when luxuriously plush items were the object of infallible, inaccessible fathom – now, we see with initiatives like MADE IN NYC and the CFDA Fund, designers can afford to sell quality at attainable price points.Danyelle Sada, creative director, designer and owner of her namesake line Danyelle Sada is a designer on the helm of what the industry will begin to recognize as today’s modern luxury. “Furriers aren’t just sprouting up! - ” Says Janet Igah, New York City – based Fashion Stylist and Curator at the Jane Luxe Café, an editorial showroom for emerging brands. “- Fur is one of the hardest markets to break into mainly because of its inaccessibility and ambiguously outlined sources.” But for designer Danyelle Sada, ethical resources, fine craftsmanship, sustainability and consumer accessibility is key to the success of her brand.
RAINE: Where did you go to school?
SADA: My parents wouldn’t pay for art school and only gave me two options: medicine or law. So I refused both and moved to New York in 2012. I interned at Parlay Studios, an enormous photography studio just outside of the city where brands like L’Oreal and BMW shoot their campaigns. It was there that I met Emily DiDonato, along with so many renowned photographers and make up artists.
RAINE: Why is it important for you to produce your line in NYC?
SADA: Quality control is top priority for our company. The only way to ensure that our customers have exactly what they want is to manage our products locally.
RAINE: Which brands do you feel your brand resonates with?
SADA: Aesthetically, our brand resonates with the hyper detailed approach of Dolce and Gabbana. Ethically, we resonate with DVF because she values strong women and the importance of charity.
RAINE: Who would you like to collaborate with in the future? (Designers? Celebrities?)
SADA: I believe Paris Hilton would understand the decadence and femininity of the brand. What Miuccia Prada does with Miu Miu also resonates with the Danyelle Sada aesthetic and it would be great to forge a collaboration at some point.
