RAINE: What was it like transitioning from dance to acting?
DUFFY: My favorite part of learning a new dance piece was figuring out who the character was and what their movement should be like. Even if the piece was an abstract one, I would create my own story and motivations for the part I was dancing. Transitioning into acting seemed natural.
RAINE: What is your dream role/project?
DUFFY: I'd love to work with Tim Burton. Mostly for the costumes. Other than that, any opportunity to be challenged by a role or project is a dream to me.RAINE: Who are you compared to in the industry?
DUFFY: A casting person once told me I reminded them of a young Cate Blanchett. I'll take it!
RAINE: What was your most memorable onscreen moment?
DUFFY: My death scene in Maniac is one a lot of viewers talk about. I don't want to give anything away, but it's so graphic one of my girlfriends literally fainted the first time it screened in LA. Personally, though, one of my favorite days of work was shooting a commercial for Burger King where I try to get David Beckham to take his shirt off. I don't think I need to explain why...
RAINE: How do you stay true to yourself?
DUFFY: I make sure to surround myself with solid friends who keep me grounded and motivated, without forgetting where I came from and my journeys so far. I also squeeze in at least one 20 minute dance break each day. I think everyone should.
RAINE: What inspired you to get into producing?
DUFFY: I've always been super detail-oriented and was good at organizing parties and gatherings. So when a couple of music video director friends needed help putting their projects together, I jumped at the chance to help out. That lead to more opportunities.RAINE: Who would you love to work with?
DUFFY: The list of directors and actors and artists who I admire immensely and would love to work with is such a long one! If I had to pick just one, I would love to be part of a mom-daughter duo with Bernadette Peters. Did I just out myself as a musical theater nerd?RAINE: You have a fabulous, unique look. What advice do you have for girls & women to embrace what makes them unique?
DUFFY: As females, we spend so much time fixating on the things we don't like about our bodies and ourselves. It's a much better feeling if instead we find the things we do like and shift our focus there. When you feel good about yourself, other people take notice.RAINE: Tell us about your current and upcoming projects.
DUFFY: My film Maniac hit theaters and VOD on June 21st. It's not a film for everyone, but it was the kind of job that forced me out of my comfort zone and I'm proud of the work I got to do. Since last year I've also been working on a US TV and radio commercial campaign for Burger King playing "Megan the Cashier." She is pretty much the opposite of my character in 'Maniac' and I've had a blast getting to develop her. I also just wrapped a supporting role in a great indie coming out next year called "Juke Box Hero" from director Sherrie Robertson, and am developing a webseries with writer Erica McIntire.
RAINE: Do you see yourself working on any entrepreneurial projects outsideof film & television?
DUFFY: I absolutely love to cook! My idea of a good time is to have a bunch of friends over so I can cook for them. One of my specialties is food that tastes delicious but is healthy for you and low in calories, using spices to create great flavor instead of lots of butter or oil. Because I love to snack, I'm always coming up with new healthy snack recipes - from kale chips to grass-fed organic beef jerky to crackers made from juicer pulp. Finding a way to share these things I create with other people outside my social circle is on the docket.
RAINE: What's the greatest lesson you've learned through your career?
