JEAN PAUL GAULTIER @ Brooklyn Museum
Jean Paul Gaultier is coming to the Brooklyn Museum! The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk!
Gaultier speaking @ Brooklyn Museum about his exhibition
Gaultier’s unforgettable and sophisticated haute couture is making it’s way to the east coast. The exhibition will be organized into seven themes outlining the influences on Gaultier’s development – from the streets of Paris to the cinema. It was curator, Thierry-Maxime Loriot in collaboration with Maison Jean Paul Gaultier, who assembled the exhibit together. The multimedia exhibition will feature approximately 140 haute couture and innovative ensembles, from the designer’s premature to his most recent collections. Jean Paul Gaultier has been keeping fashion on its toes for the last four decades with his theatrical, avant-garde, gender-twisting designs. The incredible retrospective opens tonight in New York City, ozzing with wit and sex appeal. Simply just hanging this clothes within the museum was too "still life" for the designer, whose exhibition includes multi-media mannequins, including one of himself. The show, put together by Montreal Museum of Fine Arts director Nathalie Bondil and Loriot is in New York until February 23.
The exhibition highlights Gaultier’s avant-garde approach to high fashion.
The show is traveled to Rotterdam and Stockholm before arriving in New York and it has attracted over 900,000 visitors thus far.
