All That Jazz… An Evening of Frills, Thrills, and Chills

Welcome to the ‘Age of Re,’ a journey down memory lane in which one reinvents, reinterprets and revitalizes a past occurrence. In currents events, paying homage to decades past hasn’t gone unnoticed, from the birth of the modern woman during the 1920's, where women developed into who they wanted to be rather than what was expected or deemed the societal norm. To social awareness during the 1960's and the liberation and equality movements of the 1970's. Taking a page from our past counterparts the newer generation brings about revival, a revival of style, form and dress and a stance on the issues that surround us. In recent decades, the revival of burlesque, sometimes called Neo-Burlesque has sent a nostalgic shock wave through the entertainment circuit.Once known as a bawdy comedy and female striptease during the mid-1800's has now become a perception of art, beauty, glitz, and glamor. A resurgence of burlesque during the 1990's with the likes of Billie Madley's "Cinema" and the "Dutch Weismann's Follies" revues in New York City brought about an obsession of the female form once again. Performers such as Dita Von Teese, Julie Atlas Muz, Gin Minsky, and Miss Jezebel Express just to name a few debunk the use of female sex appeal and utilize their platforms as a chance to empower women to celebrate the skin they’re in despite the expectations that encompass what womanhood ought to be. The Champagne Riot depicts this very ideology as a celebration for “scintillating burlesque and vaudevillian frivolity” in every sense of the word. It’s a commemoration of a rebellious intoxicating “vintage fantasy” that mesmerizes its audience. On Friday, June 30, 2017, we were able to witness the genius that is The Champagne Riot at the Guadalupe Inn in Brooklyn, New York City.
The Guadalupe Inn rewinds the hands of time transporting its guests to a supper club fit for the gals and dons that appreciate the allure, charm, and exotism of an era. The accompaniment of The Champagne Riot was truly the icing on the cake that evening, but if you’re having a bit of #FMO (fear of missing out) don’t let your heart be troubled. The Champagne Riot will be returning to the Guadalupe Inn on Friday, August 18, 2017, for a two show line starting at 8 PM and another at 10:30 PM for you night owls. If you aren't around during this time have no fear the Guadalupe Inn offers burlesque nights every Wednesday, drag shows on Sunday, and a slew of other musical performances throughout the week. The Guadalupe Inn is a summer hotspot you’ll want to tell a friend to tell a friend. To find out more about The Guadalupe Inn or The Champagne Riot, keep up to date through their social networks:
