INFINITELY BENE: Be Benevolent

Bene is an inspirational fashion entrepreneurial line founded by Michelle Blue and Sasha Matthews to encourage activist movements with girls in need. Not only do they want to motivate individuals with their keen eye for print aesthetics, they donate 15% of their proceeds towards the development of these young girls. The donation is contributed to women development programs such as the Lifeline Project in Accra, Ghana. Products of the Bene collection are infinity scarves, revealing the beauty of West African textiles.Screen shot 2013-10-02 at 11.47.03 AMFALL COLLECTION"The infinity scarf was also symbolic to us because it was like a “chain of goodness” that’s infinite, never broken." - Blue & MatthewsThe collection came about from a study abroad trip to Ghana where one of the creators Michelle Blue at that time was residing at Georgia University. She encountered Lifeline – a program who reached out to young females from ages 13-18 against poverty, being disowned from their families, and suffered deprivation. The Lineline program encouraged girls to become self-sufficient and start their own enterprises. Not only did this jolt a nerve in Blue's heart, shortly after expressing her urge to be involved in a humanitarian charity - Matthews jumped on board.42_2048x2048 4_2048x2048SPRING COLLECTION From there the incentive to aid young females with opportunity in forsaken third world countries were Michelle Blue and Sasha Matthew's primary goal. With Blue’s connection with a seamstress in Ghana, they began building their baby, Bene. The name “Benevolent” derived from a series of word hunting affairs with the two co-founders – it means, “characterized by or expressing a goodwill or kindly feeling. Desiring to help others.” And in attempt to push a movement, the mantra of “Be Benevolent” was born. A free key chain in the shape of their chosen typography B is given with each purchase to remind investors of their movement.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x2HGI6jxxkIn reality, the quantities of each style are quite limited – proving that supporters can rest assure they were owning a one-of-a-kind scarf. The latest Fall collection features another set of West African textile with a much softer and richer quality.
