Graduation Time: Lamp Exhibit at VCU
Closely in on graduations and wrapping up on finals, most art schools are dispatching their student exhibitions and one showcase that deserves light to be shed upon is the student lamp exhibit opening at James Branch Cabell Library. Situated in Virginia Commonwealth University, it is a series of functional light fixtures created by interior design, craft/material study majors.Student Lamp Collection at VCUThe lamp hanging toward the back of the photo was inspired by the Comic Arts Collection.Students threw inspiration from the library and from materials in the Special Collections and Archives department. “The students worked in teams composed of two Interior Design graduate students and one Craft and Material Studies major, and each team selected a particular focus of Special Collections and Archives to serve as the catalyst for a design for a functional LED light fixture.” – VCU. With agendas to construct a new Cabell library, students try to envision structures and incorporate light fixtures into architectural themes. VCU’s craft/material studies program engages in substances such as wood, fiber, clay, glass, and metal. The college’s program delegate students to hone and improvise skills to redefine ancient technologies with new technologies. The exhibit was open from April 26th to May 10th, 2013 allowing all patrons and visitors to see.Photo Source: Celina Williams
