Food Art with Chef Eric Hunter

Next time you’re feeling down in the dumps, unconfident, and just plain low, give Eric Hunter a call. No, Hunter is not a motivational speaker or even your grandma. Hunter is an acclaimed chef who for his company Kem-Ra Inc., a catering company, cooks cuisine that he deems not only ‘sexy,’ but also ‘food for the soul.’

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Hunter fashioned his cooking skills through the influence of his father, a master baker, and his mother, a grade school teacher. Both parents helped to instill the traditional cooking techniques and dishes that Hunter still uses today, such as his preference for always hearty and satisfying dishes. His desire to eat and prepare healthy and delicious cuisine brought him to New York City, where he studied at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts.Upon graduating, Hunter immediately went to work at such celebrated restaurants as, Bouley, Danube, Cello, and Vong. Most notably, Hunter was elected Executive Chef at Counter Vegetarian Restaurant and Wine Bar in New York’s East Village. He has also been featured and interviewed on numerous radio and television channels, including New York City’s CBS Morning Show. Through his training at the Natural Gourmet Institute, coupled with his cooking at some of the most renowned New York restaurants, Hunter gradually began to cultivate a culinary style completely his own. As stated earlier, he regards his cuisine as simply ‘sexy.’ It is sexy in that “it appeals to all of our physical and spiritual senses.” Hunter believes that all creative outlets should appeal to our senses, and cooking is not one to dismiss and overlook.
