Eason Wong
FIVE’s International Designer SPOTLIGHT - Eason Wang When I first met Shanghai born, up & coming International designer - it was during his stay in Vancouver, BC Canada. He was 18 years old in Fashion Design school, already cherry picked for success. It was his forward vision that drew me to his work, seeing whispers of his editorial teasers on my Facebook feed. I responded to his model call for his debut fashion show (T.A.S.S, the Teachers & Student show) at the Yaletown Roundhouse by his design school Blanche McDonald.Other than walking in his show (where he unveiled his brand UNLOKK) I offered my assistance with production in any sense of the word. However, Eason had it figured out. He always does, as I watched him rise to success twice more during two seasons of Vancouver ECO Fashion Week showing two more eclectic collections of UNLOKK. Eason is the definition of a dark horse, providing you with something to talk about; revealing future edge, a taste for theatrics paired with slick aesthetic - while still pulling off an ‘undone’ look. These are some of my favorite elements of fashion, ableit Eco re-using scraps of old studio scraps (just when I was getting sick of the taste of granola). I feel more comfortable wearing his designs than I do with my own wardrobe!Inspired by Alexander Mcqueen & Gareth Pugh, Eason Wang’s first collection of UNLOKK was called “Shadow Eater”. Drawing from gothic inspirations, warrior shoulders & sheaths that softly drape off the body in mysterious angles - contrasted by hard structured shoulders. It should be of no surprise to any of us now, especially after reading - that Eason’s sights are next set on New York now that he has left Vancouver behind. He currently has returned to Shanghai, to re-visit his parents who he hadn’t seen for over 3 years. Once he hits NYC, watch out World! His plan is to attend Parsons, and study under a big name designer. We will be watching UNLOKK closely, Mr. Eason Wang! You should too!
