Diamonds and Dark Fashion
Late last year, Givenchy announced a hiatus from showing their couture collection in the winter of 2013, but that Riccardo Tisci, the Creative Director of the brand’s womenswear division, would continue to create unique pieces for some of his seriously prolific clientele. This week, it was announced that he did in fact design the costumes for Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour, which kicked off last weekend (March, 8th) in Buffalo, NY.
Rihanna's Givenchy Cape
While back in 2005, Rihanna stated that she didn’t have a favorite designer but loved the work of Roberto Cavalli, it makes perfect sense why she teamed up with Riccardo Tisci for her whirlwind music tour. Roberto does beautiful and classic, Riccardo owns edgy and stark, very much like the Princess of Pop herself.
Rihanna's Givenchy Costume
Over the years, Rihanna’s image evolved considerably; initially she was a good girl, then she went bad, then she went badder still, and somehow keeps going. The outfit she wore for her first music video, “Pon de Replay” wasn’t discussed by every fashion blog under the sun but now almost everything Rihanna wears is on the news.
Givenchy Dress
As a style icon for many young women and, as of recently (see Monday’s blog), a fashion powerhouse in her own right, her tours are like her own personal fashion showcase that people are watching closely, which is probably why she needed something different, something that makes a statement, and someone like Tisci. He’s not only the Creative Director of Givenchy; as of 2008 he’s also the designer of the brand’s menswear and accessories.
Riccardo Tisci
Incorporating certain gothic minimalism into a lot of his designs, Tisci’s contemporary feel for style and glamour fits perfectly with Rihanna’s latest reincarnation. There is something slightly dominant and hip-hop about his costumes, which are inspired by the men’s clothing line, but they don’t overwhelm the natural beauty of the Barbadian songstress. As a matter of fact, we’d say they are the perfect fit.Image Source: : Vogue, Hollywood Reporter, Hype BeastWriter Source: Vogue, Hollywood Reporter, GQ, Liz Belilovskaya
