During New York's Fashion Week The Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers exhibited one of its solo acts; Vaishali S, a Mumbai-based luxury label founded by Vaishali Shadangule that transforms authentic Indian handlooms into wearable works of art. Vaishali returns to the New York Fashion Week stage, this time however as part of CAAFD selected designer.
Every season, the Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers [CAAFD] handpicks some of the finest talents in the global fashion industry. Albeit, Vaishali S is not new to the New York Fashion scene, her impeccable designs poke the interest of many, including CAAFD’s screening committee. She is one of CAAFD’s approved designers to be nurtured in an overwhelming industry. While CAAFD stages various collective showcases, there are few that are solo showcases.
Vaishali S, the eponymous brand, was borne out of designer Vaishali Shadangule’s genuine affection for the classic Indian weaves. Working with authentic woven textiles telling a culturally rich tale about the country’s heritage, the brand has endeavored to lend the Indian handloom weave a global design language of expression for almost 20 years.
“Handwoven textiles are in our DNA. Since the inception of Vaishali S in March 2011, the brand has stayed committed to the weaver. The vision of Vaishali S is focused on making natural and handmade apparel by working with over 700 weavers across India, among which 80% are female weavers.” Vaishali Confirms. Vaishali consciously chooses to work with female artisans and weavers across the country, thus empowering and enabling them to make informed choices that progressively enrich their lives.
