Cadence Cycling
Melissa Heitman, along with husband Matt and their other partners are living the dream daily at Cadence Cycling and Multisports. A high-end retail store for cycling enthusiasts. Co-founders Matt Heitman and Jay Snider, frequent riding partners, decided to try and live the dream in 2003, putting their passion for competitive cycling into a business plan that would ultimately spawn Cadence. At the time, Melissa was working in the consulting world and looking for a change. Many people talk about wanting to be their own boss or letting their inner entrepreneur emerge. For Melissa, it was more like a birthright or destiny. Her parents owned a business together when she was growing up, so she always expected to do the same some day. As fate would have it, Matt’s parents also had their own business. Talk about a match made in Cycling Heaven.Cadence Cycling and Multisports sets itself apart by offering full mechanical services as well as professional coaching. Stealing a page from the Krispy Kreme book, they even let you watch the technicians work on your bicycle. The friendly staff is not at all against the customers watching them work and does not frown upon the Q and A sessions that often occur. The customers absolutely LOVE being able to have a conversation with the experts working on their equipment and often glean helpful tips and advice from those on the cutting edge of the trade. Led by Brian Walton, a 3-time Olympian and former teammate of Lance Armstrong, the coaching is extraordinary as well.
