Amazingly Realistic Drawings By Monica Lee
Look carefully at these drawings and prepare to get lost in the details. Malaysian artist, Monica Lee, uses a graphite pencil to draw remarkable photo-realistic images. Notice the fine details and 3D effects used to manipulate the drawing and capture the faded freckles, coarse hair and subtle weave of a shirt.
The artist worked with digital art for 12 years before making a switch to an analog way of working. Monica's art is greatly influenced and inspired by her father, of whom worked with photography all her life.
Photo-realism presents many challenges when it comes to paying attention to detail. These challenges dont phase Monica for she enjoys trying to produce as many details in her drawings as possible. The artist uses a combination of tools, including smudging sticks, to build a 3D illusion which results in a sense of balance in her work. She concentrates on tactical textures and takes the time to blend soft diffused grays. These black and white drawings look even more realistic then they would if they were in color because of the shading and the special attention given.
Monica does not create beautiful drawings just of people, she also has produced images of animals as well as still lifes. She states: “I like to challenge myself with complex portraits especially people with freckles or beard. And I’m addicted to details. I like drawing in as much details as I can into my work.”
