AFWNY Spotlight : Sara Karay, Nadir Tati and Maze Couture
As New York Africa Fashion Week (AFWNY) fast approaches, we’re getting more and more excited. It’s no secret that we are simply itching to see the latest designs on the runways; it’s a thrilling time for us indeed. We are anticipating great things from Sara Karay. She is known for utilizing animal and tribal prints in her designs, as well as vibrant hues that make bold statements, in a sense, she is sort of a wild card in the fashion world. Hailing from Nairobi, Kenya, her unpredictable flare usually finds a way to make a lasting impression on us, and we hear a swimwear line is currently in the works, which only means more surprises are ahead. An interesting factoid about Sara is that she doesn't design for the seasons, instead she designs for the elements as she's inspired by fire, water, earth and air.Another name we can’t forget is that of Nadir Tati. She’s an Angolan fashion designer who initially started out in the business as a model. Now that she’s been named the “Best Designer of the Year - 2010” by the Moda Luanda, it’s safe to say that she’s found his niche. Her clothes are elegant and expressive, and truly demonstrate the unique style that earned her a loyal fan base that includes us.Finally we’d like to mention Maze Couture. The UK based designer is skilled at making amazing kaftans, blazers and “one of a kind” creations that are customized to fit any and every individual. The detailed embroidery, which is a staple of many of her designs, has earned her much credit as they are rather impressive. She is also applauded for her use of only the finest fabrics that only enhance the appeal of her clothing. Maze is well known throughout Europe and Africa alike.Regardless of what you think you know about Africa Fashion Week, something tells us we will all be pleasantly surprised.Info and Image Source: www.afwny.com
