This cute and affordable line is also animal friendly.
Designer Jane Saidenberg has created a line of totes, travel bags, clutches, computer bags, make-up bags and more in colorful and unique prints, including metallic, glitter, florals, animal and geometric patterns, etc. These bags are made of coated canvas and vegan leather (non-leather and made without any animal products or bi-products) so they’re perfect for any woman who’s conscious about not wearing animal skin on her shoulder. These functional bags area also full of pockets to keep a busy woman organized and won’t break the bank. “When you feel good about how you look, you exude confidence, and that is always a good thing,” says Jane.
If you think Jane just up and created her business at the snap of her fingers, think again. Jane’s first entrepreneurial venture was designing stylist laminated canvas storage boxes for toys and clothing, which later turned into diaper bags and lunchboxes. However, Saidenberg was unable to keep up with the costs and was forced to close the business. Instead of saying “c’est la vie” and walking away altogether, Jane took a trip to China in April 2007 to find a way to keep her dream alive. She found a factory where she could drastically lower her production costs, and the inspiration for her Jane Marvel line was born. “Handbags had gotten really expensive, so I thought if I can make this beautiful bag and it only costs me this certain amount of money, I could actually retail a bag that was not a tremendous amount of money and a lot less than what other people were selling,” says Jane. For example, the iconic Louis Vuitton label markets a canvas bag collection that ranges from $550 to $2,500, whereas Jane’s collection for $38 to $145.
Jane’s overcoming adversity, and making sales or more than $1 million in her first year alone, is inspiration to any entrepreneur looking to make their big break in the industry during this tough economic time. As the old saying goes, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
